It would interesting to see a post on that from you someday. I agree that a show's vibe is actually something that is part of the equation; sometimes a big part. I like the AUD and Matrix of this show for that reason. It's very big on the Happy Vibes, and since that's part of what the band DID, well, I do think that matters. "Transportation business" isn't only about the most astounding transcendent X-factor moments, though of course those are going to be everyone's faves.

Btw, I relistened to some of the tunes that I'd accidentally cut out earlier (cuz of selecting/deselecting earlier for whatever reason). Day Tripper is fun if you can catch the vibe of the show and get into it. (It's always ideal to hear a whole show IMO, but then again, I'm a bit of a historical purist -- or obsessive, LOL). But if (a) you don't have the time, or (b) are playing this around folks who aren't already into the Dead (or some who are), I still say this could cause some grimaces ... even while it makes other folks smile.

Nothing wrong with judging tune by tune or moment by moment. That's part of the fun and the Grand Tradition, is't it? The band members were famously critical of their own performances, and there's no reason we can't get in on that game, either :-)

Anyway, you should write that post! Even though you're a repentant gate crasher :-)

I didn't mean to imply I had any issues with song by song critiquing - only that I don't think I am very good at it myself. It is part of the fun, I agree. If we are discussing a show that I attended I am just more apt to write about my personal experience, which may include other factors besides the music. :)
